WhatsApp tests new birthday reminder feature

WhatsApp is testing a new birthday reminder feature designed to help users keep track of important dates within their contact lists. According to reports from WABetaInfo, the feature is currently being tested in the WhatsApp beta version for iOS.

The functionality works by reading birthday information directly from the device's address book. If a contact has a birthday saved, WhatsApp will display a cake emoji and a “Today’s Birthday” label next to their name in the app. This indicator is intended to stay visible throughout the day to prompt users to send greetings.

This update is part of a broader redesign of the app’s navigation. WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new contacts tab, which may involve moving status updates and channels to different sections of the interface to accommodate the new layout.
