WhatsApp tests message scheduling and new contact features
WhatsApp is testing several major feature updates within its Android and iOS beta versions. A highly anticipated tool allows users to schedule the delivery of text, links, photos, and videos. This function, which requires a minimum of 10 minutes and a maximum of two weeks' notice, enables messages to be sent automatically even if the device is offline or the app is closed. In group chats, scheduled messages are only delivered to members present at the time of scheduling.
Additionally, Meta is developing a dedicated Contacts tab for Android. This new interface element would allow users to view their contact list, see who is currently online via a green status indicator, and receive birthday reminders. The tab will likely offer sorting options by activity or alphabetically.
Other interface improvements include a redesigned settings menu, particularly for iOS, which may replace the traditional 'Settings' tab with a 'You' tab to prioritize user profile management. Developers are also testing a 'Liquid Glass Design' for chat headers to improve readability and navigation.
