WhatsApp tests third-party AI integration and guest calling

WhatsApp is undergoing significant transformations to become a more open, AI-centric communication platform. Meta is testing features that allow users to integrate third-party artificial intelligence agents from companies such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic directly into the application. These agents can be added via API keys and will appear as individual chats, allowing users to interact with them as if they were standard contacts. However, these specific AI-driven conversations will not feature end-to-end encryption.

Additionally, the platform is expanding its accessibility by developing a way to host voice and video calls for individuals who do not have a registered WhatsApp account. This feature will allow guests to join via a secure link through a web browser, entering a guest mode without needing to install the app. To maintain security, hosts will have the ability to manage participants through a waiting room and can manually approve or remove guests from the session.
