WhatsApp to end support for older Android and iOS devices

WhatsApp is updating its minimum operating system requirements, which will affect users with older mobile devices. For Android users, the application will stop supporting devices running versions older than Android 6.0 starting September 8, 2026. Users running Android 5.0 or 5.1 that cannot be updated will lose access to the service.

iPhone users are also facing changes. WhatsApp will require iOS 15.5 or a later version starting November 30.

Meta has not released an official list of specific phone models that will lose support, as compatibility depends on whether the hardware allows for operating system updates. The company stated that these changes are necessary to implement new features and maintain security standards compatible with modern systems. Users are advised to check their current software version in their device settings and look for available updates to avoid losing access.
