WhatsApp to introduce guest calls without account requirements

WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a new feature called ‘guest calls,’ which will allow users to participate in conversations without needing a registered account or the mobile application.

Based on the WhatsApp Web browser version, the feature will enable users to join discussions via a generated link sent through SMS, email, or other channels. This functionality is similar to FaceTime’s ability to allow non-Apple users to join video calls. To ensure security, the calls will be fully encrypted, and organizers will maintain control by manually approving guests and retaining the ability to remove them from the conversation at any time. This update aims to lower the barrier to entry for communication on the platform, which traditionally required a phone number for account verification.
