Meta's WhatsApp is testing a proprietary cloud backup service for both iOS and Android devices. The feature, visible in a TestFlight beta, will let users store chat backups on WhatsApp's servers instead of iCloud or Google Drive. It will provide 2 GB of storage at no cost, with paid options such as a 50 GB plan for about $0.99 per month and a potential 1 TB tier under consideration.

All backups will be encrypted end‑to‑end by default, meaning only the user can decrypt the data; WhatsApp and Meta will not have access. The service is intended to free up users' iCloud or Google Drive space and simplify migration of chat histories between iPhone and Android devices. No official launch date has been announced.
