WhatsApp updates interface with Liquid Glass design and AI editing

WhatsApp is implementing significant updates to its interface and media tools, focusing on both aesthetic redesigns and advanced AI capabilities.

On iOS, the application is continuing its transition to the ‘Liquid Glass’ design language, inspired by Apple’s visual style. Recent beta versions indicate that the drawing editor and video player will receive updates, including translucent, glass-like buttons and a redesigned progress bar to ensure visual consistency across the app. These changes aim to align the messaging platform more closely with the iOS ecosystem.

On Android, WhatsApp is testing advanced AI-driven image editing features powered by Meta AI. A notable new tool is an ‘Expand’ function, which uses artificial intelligence to adapt photos to a 9:16 vertical format by generating additional content around the edges rather than simply cropping the image. Other upcoming features include the ability to modify image elements, remove backgrounds or objects, and apply stylistic changes through written instructions.
