WhatsApp testing animated emoji reactions and custom reaction trays
WhatsApp is rolling out updates to enhance user interaction through animated emoji reactions and increased customization.
In the latest Android beta versions, the app has begun testing animated emoji reactions. When a user selects a compatible emoji to react to a message, the icon performs a brief animation before returning to a static state. Currently, support is limited to four specific emojis: the thumbs up, red heart, face with tears of joy, and folded hands. This feature utilizes Lottie technology to provide smooth visual effects, and users can disable these animations via the app settings if they prefer a more subtle interface.
Additionally, Meta is developing a feature to allow users to personalize their quick reaction tray. Instead of being limited to the six default emojis, users may soon be able to replace these slots with their favorite emojis from their full keyboard. This update, which has been spotted in iOS and Android beta versions, aims to make the messaging experience more tailored to individual communication styles.
