WhatsApp Web launches voice and video calling on browsers
Meta has enabled voice and video calls directly from WhatsApp Web, allowing users to place individual calls through a web browser without installing a desktop client. The feature uses end‑to‑end encryption and works with a microphone, speakers and camera connected to the computer.
The rollout began gradually worldwide, with early users receiving the update first. Additional capabilities such as call transfer between phone and browser, waiting‑room approval for participants, QuickHD high‑definition video from the start of a call, and background‑noise suppression are being introduced in phases. Meta plans to extend the service to group calls in the future.
