Using WhatsApp Web in a private or incognito browser window offers specific security benefits and limitations. While private browsing deletes local history, cookies, and form data upon closing the window, it does not encrypt network traffic or hide IP addresses from network administrators or internet service providers. A significant advantage of private mode is that session cookies are destroyed when the window closes, requiring a new QR code scan for subsequent sessions. This can prevent unauthorized access on shared computers if a user forgets to log out.

However, users should remain cautious of browser extensions, which may still function in private mode and potentially expose data. To manage security, WhatsApp provides a ‘Linked Devices’ feature that allows users to remotely monitor and terminate active sessions from their mobile phones. This tool is essential for identifying unrecognized connections or closing sessions left open on borrowed or public hardware, ensuring that access is revoked without needing physical access to the computer in question.
