Wheat markets face volatility amid Black Sea tensions
The global wheat market is experiencing significant volatility driven by geopolitical tensions in the Black Sea region. Russian maritime blockades and limited exports from Ukraine have contributed to rising prices, though overall global demand remains weak.
In Europe, French wheat harvest forecasts have been slightly lowered to an estimated 32 million tons. In Northern Germany, the harvest is nearing completion with mixed results; while protein levels and falling numbers are positive, hectoliter weights remain low. Due to sluggish demand, much of the German wheat is being stored.
Market participants are closely watching for upcoming data from the USDA and potential political shifts in Russia that could influence supply levels. European suppliers are looking to attract more import demand to stabilize domestic markets.
