Wheat production costs rise amid fertilizer hikes and moisture delays

Wheat production costs have seen a year-on-year increase, driven primarily by the rising price of nitrogen fertilizers. Total costs are estimated at 797 US$/ha, compared to 772 US$/ha in July 2026 and 720 US$/ha a year prior.

In addition to fertilizer, costs for labor and harvesting have risen, alongside a moderate increase in diesel prices. While 99% of the planned 6.5 million hectares have been sown, excessive moisture is delaying final tasks and threatening short-cycle crops in certain regions. Conversely, in the north and west-central agricultural areas, moisture levels allow for continued fertilization and fungicide treatments to combat rust outbreaks.
