Which? experts advise against refrigerating certain foods
Consumer experts from Which?, the largest independent consumer rights organization in the United Kingdom, have identified five types of food that should not be stored in the refrigerator to maintain quality.
According to advice shared via social media, cucumbers should be kept in a cupboard or a bowl on the countertop, as low temperatures can cause the skin to wrinkle and the interior to become mushy. Similarly, tomatoes should be kept at room temperature to prevent changes in texture and flavor.
Other items recommended for non-refrigerated storage include onions, which can become soft or moldy due to refrigerator humidity, and bread, which can lose moisture and become stale in the fridge. While whole onions should be kept in a cool, dry place, sliced onions can be refrigerated in airtight containers. For bread, experts suggest using a bread box or freezing sliced portions instead of refrigerating them.
