Whirlpool expert identifies common dishwasher usage errors
Will Holland, a brand manager at Whirlpool, has identified three common mistakes that can reduce the efficiency and lifespan of dishwashers.
First, users often use incorrect cleaning agents. It is essential to use only detergents specifically formulated for automatic dishwashers; using standard manual dish soap can be detrimental. Additionally, when using liquids or powders, users should adhere to the manufacturer's indicated fill lines to ensure proper dosing.
Second, pre-rinsing dishes is discouraged. Modern dishwasher detergents contain enzymes designed to latch onto food particles to break them down. If dishes are pre-rinsed, these enzymes may instead target the dishes themselves, potentially causing damage. Furthermore, pre-rinsing can confuse dishwasher sensors that rely on soil levels to adjust the wash cycle.
Third, neglecting the regular cleaning of the dishwasher itself can impact performance.
