Whistleblower alleges New York Attorney General targeted Donald Trump

A whistleblower from the New York Attorney General’s Investor Protection Bureau, veteran prosecutor Daniel Wiesenfeld, has alleged that staff were directed to find and pursue crimes involving individuals and organizations affiliated with Donald Trump, including Truth Social and Hewlett Packard, without credible evidence. Wiesenfeld claims the office was wasting taxpayer funds to target “convenient public enemies.”

Following his disclosure via an email to colleagues, Wiesenfeld was placed on paid administrative leave, and his email was reportedly deleted from office servers. Federal investigators from the FBI and the Department of Justice have interviewed Wiesenfeld regarding the matter.

Critics of Attorney General Letitia James point to her 2018 campaign platform, which focused on pursuing the former president, as evidence of political motivation. Concerns have also been raised regarding the office's performance in other areas, such as Medicaid fraud recovery, which has seen a decline in both annual recoveries and criminal convictions compared to previous administrations.
