Simon Andriesz, whistleblower in Lutnick-Epstein case, dies

Simon Andriesz, a British former Wall Street banker and whistleblower, has died at age 57. Reports indicate he died by suicide in Thailand while receiving treatment.

Andriesz was a prominent figure in exposing alleged business links between US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. By searching the Epstein files for Lutnick’s initials, “HWL,” Andriesz identified a 2018 email chain regarding Adfin, a digital advertising company in which both men reportedly held interests. This discovery challenged Lutnick’s previous assertions regarding the extent of his relationship with Epstein.

Beyond the Epstein matter, Andriesz had a long history of reporting alleged financial misconduct. He raised concerns regarding accounting irregularities at BGC Group, where he served as a managing director, and his disclosures reportedly contributed to a £96 million HMRC tax assessment.

His death has prompted the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to launch an internal review, led by board member Lea Paterson, into how the regulator interacted with him. The review aims to identify lessons for future whistleblower protections. Members of the UK Parliament have called for a more independent investigation into the FCA’s handling of his case.
