Whistler area bear attack leaves hiker injured
A woman was airlifted to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a bear attack near Conflict Lake in the Callaghan Conservancy, close to Whistler, B.C. The incident occurred on a Friday evening when a group of three hikers encountered two bears.
Responding agencies, including the B.C. Conservation Officer Service’s Predator Attack Team, Squamish RCMP, and Squamish Search and Rescue, arrived at the scene via helicopter. Following a safety sweep, conservation officers located an adult male black bear at the site and euthanized it due to public safety concerns.
Officials have not yet confirmed whether the attacking animal was a black bear or a grizzly, nor if the euthanized bear was the specific individual involved in the attack. Trail access in the area has been closed, and warning signs have been posted while investigations continue.
