Whitbread to close all UK Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants by September
Whitbread plc announced that it will shutter its entire portfolio of branded restaurants in the United Kingdom as part of a five‑year transformation plan. All 106 Beefeater locations will close on 10 September 2026 and all Brewers Fayre outlets will cease trading after dinner service on 7 September 2026. The Bar + Block, Table Table and Cookhouse + Pub brands are scheduled to close on 3 September 2026. The programme is intended to save about £250 million in operating costs and will see roughly 3,800 jobs at risk across the UK and Ireland. Whitbread plans to redeploy many staff, convert some former restaurant sites into around 600 additional Premier Inn hotel rooms, and sell approximately £1.5 billion of freehold property. In Birmingham, two Bar + Block venues will be rebranded as "The Social" rather than closing outright.
