Whitbread to close Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants in UK restructuring

Whitbread, the parent company of Premier Inn, is implementing a major restructuring plan to transform into a more hotel-centric business. The strategy aims to generate £250 million in cost savings over five years by closing all remaining Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants across the UK, along with several standalone dining establishments.

The restructuring is expected to result in approximately 3,800 job reductions across Whitbread’s UK and Ireland workforce. As part of the plan, the company intends to convert some restaurant sites into additional Premier Inn rooms and divest roughly £1.5 billion in freehold properties to reduce its ownership ratio.

Closures are scheduled for early September. Bar + Block, Cookhouse+, and Table Table outlets, including the Mill of Mundurno in Aberdeenshire, will cease trading on September 3. The 89 Brewers Fayre pubs, such as Mains of Balquharn in Portlethen, will close on September 7. Finally, 106 Beefeater sites nationwide, including five in Scotland, are set to shut down on September 10. In total, 18 venues are scheduled to close across Scotland.
