Whitbread to close all 106 Beefeater restaurants across the UK
Whitbread announced that all 106 Beefeater restaurants will cease trading on 10 September 2026. The shutdown will affect sites throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, putting roughly 3,800 jobs at risk.
The closures are part of a £250 million restructuring plan prompted by “significant cost increases” such as higher employer National Insurance contributions and business rates. Whitbread said it will try to redeploy a large proportion of affected staff and plans to convert many former restaurant locations into integrated food‑and‑drink outlets for its Premier Inn hotels, adding about 600 new hotel rooms.
The move marks the end of the 52‑year‑old Beefeater chain and also includes the eventual winding down of its sister brands Brewers Fayre and Bar + Block.
