White elk calf spotted in Ersnäs, Sweden

A white elk calf was observed in the village of Ersnäs in Norrbotten, Sweden, an extremely rare sighting for the region. Dan Sandström, who was in the area photographing a barn owl, reported that a female elk with two calves passed his car, noting that one of the calves was white. He described the moment as a "jackpot for a nature photographer" and emphasized the need to avoid disturbing the animals.

Björn Sundgren, a wildlife‑care consultant for the Swedish Hunters' Association, confirmed the rarity of the event, saying it could be the only white elk in the county and that such reports have only occasionally come from far‑southerly parts of Sweden. The encounter is considered unique for the high latitudes of northern Sweden.
