Donald Trump faces declining support among key demographics ahead of US midterms

New polling indicates a decline in support for President Donald Trump across several key voter demographics as the November 3 midterm elections approach. A Reuters/Ipsos survey shows support among white evangelical Protestants has dropped to 63 percent, down from 77 percent at the time of his second inauguration in January 2025. Trump’s overall approval rating has reached an all-time low of 31 percent.

In the Latino community, a Pew Research Center poll conducted in late 2026 found that Trump’s approval has fallen to 24 percent, compared to 38 percent in February 2025. Among Latino voters who supported him in 2024, approval dropped from 93 percent to 57 percent. The data suggests Democrats hold a significant advantage in preferences for the House of Representatives, with 51 percent of registered Latino voters favoring Democratic candidates over the 24 percent supporting Republicans.

As Republicans seek to defend their congressional majorities, they are relying on the white evangelical base to counter a potential Democratic surge driven by concerns over affordability and the conflict between Israel and Iran. In South Carolina, Republican Senate candidate Darline Graham holds a narrow lead over Democrat Annie Andrews.
