White House announces $6 billion scientific initiative to boost AI research
At the ‘Science: A New Golden Age’ summit in Washington, the White House announced a massive scientific initiative totaling over $6 billion in federal, industrial, academic, and philanthropic funding. The package aims to secure American leadership in science and technology, particularly in competition with China.
A central component is the Genesis mission, which mobilizes $5 billion in federal funds across more than 15 agencies to address challenges in energy, health, and space. To support this, eleven major technology companies have committed $2.4 billion toward scientific research powered by artificial intelligence. These contributions include $1 billion from Nvidia, $500 million from AMD, $200 million from OpenAI, and $150 million each from Anthropic and Google.
The resources are intended to provide essential tools and computing credits to accelerate scientific breakthroughs. Additionally, the summit included announcements of over $100 million in educational programs for researchers in STEM fields.
