White House considers government-led cybersecurity incubator

The Trump administration is considering the launch of a government-led cybersecurity research incubator, according to reports. The initiative, potentially established via an executive order from the Office of the National Cyber Director, aims to research and develop technologies aligned with government priorities.

One draft version of the order describes the program as a ‘cyber foundry’ designed to birth new companies and attract venture capital investments. The goal is to support startups that build cybersecurity tools specifically for government use. This model has been compared to the Israeli approach, which aligns military priorities with academic research and cybersecurity startups.

While the Pentagon and CIA have historically funded research for national security, this would represent the first dedicated cyber-specific effort. The proposal comes as the White House addresses emerging threats from artificial intelligence, including AI-driven cyberattacks and the use of AI by criminals to create false identities.
