White House criticizes Natalie Maines over Trump remarks

The White House has issued a sharp rebuke of Natalie Maines, lead singer of the country group The Chicks, following her criticisms of President Donald Trump during a concert in New York City. A White House spokesperson described Maines as a ‘despicable nobody’ and claimed she suffers from ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ that has ‘rotted her peanut-sized brain.’

During the ‘Taking the Long Way’ anniversary tour at the Beacon Theatre, Maines reflected on the backlash she and her bandmates, Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire, faced in 2003 after criticizing former President George W. Bush regarding the Iraq War. Maines stated that while they once feared the consequences of their political outspokenness, she would now ‘give [George W. Bush] a big wet kiss’ because she is currently ‘ashamed the president of the United States is from the United States.’

Maines emphasized her refusal to adhere to the ‘shut up and sing’ sentiment, asserting her right as an American to question the government and its leaders.
