White House demands Politico retract three articles

The White House has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Politico, demanding the retraction or correction of three recent reports concerning White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. In a letter sent to Politico’s global editor-in-chief, Jonathan Grinberg, White House Counsel Will Scharf requested a prominent public apology to President Donald Trump and Ms. Wiles, as well as the removal of the disputed content from digital archives.

The disputed reporting includes a Playbook story from October 15 regarding a potential replacement for Wiles, a follow-up report on October 16 claiming the President reacted angrily to the initial story, and a third report suggesting Wiles orchestrated a difficult Fox News interview for former Press Secretary Katie Zacharia. The White House has dismissed these reports as false.

Scharf warned that failure to comply by the Thursday deadline would result in an “immediate review of Politico’s relationship with the White House” and other unspecified consequences. This escalation follows previous actions by President Trump, who has banned Politico, CNN, and MSNBC from the Oval Office and Air Force One, citing biased coverage.
