White House denies reports of delaying abortion actions until after midterms

The White House has denied reports alleging that senior officials urged Attorney General Todd Blanche to delay anti-abortion legal actions until after the 2026 midterm elections. According to reports from The Washington Sun, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles reportedly led discussions suggesting the Department of Justice defer such actions for political reasons. The White House maintains that these conversations “never occurred.”

The allegations have drawn sharp criticism from pro-life advocacy groups. Lila Rose, President of Live Action, stated on social media that “unborn children cannot be put on a political calendar.” Similarly, Kristan Hawkins, President of Students for Life of America, argued that lives are at stake immediately and should not be subject to Washington’s political schedule.

This controversy follows recent legal developments, including Justice Department attorneys declining to state the administration’s position on abortion pills during oral arguments in Louisiana v. FDA. Data from the Guttmacher Institute indicates that abortion pills, such as mifepristone, accounted for approximately 63% of abortions in 2023.
