White House fraud ledger faces scrutiny amid Medicaid payment revelations

The White House is promoting a new “Fraud Ledger” claiming the administration has uncovered nearly $250 billion in federal fraud. However, critics and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) note that the figures include unproven suspicions, money sent to collections, and cases that began before the current task force was established. For example, $22.2 billion in flagged pandemic loans were previously identified by the Small Business Administration during the Biden administration.

Separately, investigations in Washington, D.C. revealed that five home healthcare companies received approximately $820.5 million in Medicaid payments despite local regulators having previously moved to terminate them due to “credible allegations of fraud.” While these companies have not been convicted of fraud, the payments continued years after regulatory actions were initiated. These findings emerge as the federal government intensifies efforts to combat Medicaid fraud nationwide.
