White House press access restored to CNN, MS NOW, and Politico

The Trump administration faced legal challenges after revoking the press credentials of CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House press pool. The administration cited the outlets' coverage as “FAKE NEWS” and later claimed the move was a response to national security threats, though critics characterized it as viewpoint discrimination.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly ordered the administration to restore access to the news organizations, ruling they were likely deprived of their constitutional right to due process. In response to the exclusion, remaining major television networks in the shared press pool demonstrated solidarity by refusing to film presidential events.

The incident has sparked significant debate regarding the First Amendment and the role of the press as a check on executive power, with legal actions focusing on whether the administration's actions constituted an unconstitutional attempt to freeze out critical reporting.
