White House report estimates $49 trillion cost for DSA agenda

A report from the White House Council of Economic Advisers estimates that the policy agenda of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) would cost the United States approximately $49 trillion over a ten-year period. This figure equates to roughly $355,000 per American household.

The report details the projected costs of several policy pillars. Medicare for All is estimated to cost taxpayers more than $47 trillion, while the Green New Deal is projected to cost the economy $12 trillion over 25 years. Other analyzed policies include student debt cancellation, a 32-hour workweek, and universal rent control.

Regarding immigration, the Council of Economic Advisers estimates that policies involving mass amnesty and expanded benefits—such as food stamps, federal housing assistance, and Medicaid—would cost between $440 billion and $613 billion over the next decade. The report notes that unwinding current enforcement measures could reduce projected taxpayer savings by up to $287 billion.
