White House targets Mohsen Rezaee for potential nuclear negotiations

According to a Washington Post report, the Trump administration views Mohsen Rezaee, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, as a key figure for advancing a nuclear agreement. US Deputy Vice President JD Vance reportedly sent a letter to Rezaee outlining mutual interests: the US prioritizes preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, while Iran seeks economic reconstruction and the preservation of national sovereignty.

US intelligence officials suggest Rezaee possesses significant influence due to his restructuring of the Supreme National Security Council and his support from former IRGC commanders. The report notes that Rezaee maintains contact with Mojtaba Khamenei and has communicated with the Supreme Leader following the receipt of Vance's letter.

While Qatar continues to serve as a primary mediator, previous attempts at negotiation, such as those involving Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, resulted in only limited understandings that collapsed following maritime tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
