White nationalist group appears at B.C. Legislature

A group identified as the Loyalist Pioneers, a white nationalist organization, appeared at the British Columbia Legislature wearing black clothing and masks. The group unfurled a banner featuring the term “remigration,” a political buzzword used by far-right movements to advocate for the mass deportation of immigrants and their descendants.

According to the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, the group is part of the “white nationalism 3.0” or “Active Club” movement. This decentralized network of alt-right groups utilizes physical fitness and combat sports to recruit members into white supremacist and extremist activities. This movement, which includes groups such as Second Sons and Nationalist-13, has been spreading across Canada.

Edwin Hodge, an adjunct professor at the University of Victoria specializing in extremism, described the term “remigration” as a “white nationalist dog whistle.” He noted that while these modern groups often attempt to present a “veneer of respectability” through their outward rhetoric, their internal messaging frequently includes violence.
