White Sox first baseman Munetaka Murakami makes progress in hamstring rehab

White Sox rookie first baseman Munetaka Murakami is running again as part of his recovery from a right hamstring strain suffered during a 4‑3 win over the Detroit Tigers on May 29. The 26‑year‑old Japanese slugger, who is batting .240 with 20 home runs and 41 RBIs in 57 games, said his rehab is "coming along well" and that progress is being made daily. He is expected to miss four to six weeks while he completes running and hitting drills, with manager Will Venable noting that several performance benchmarks still need to be cleared.

The team also reported that catcher Kyle Teel, another recent hamstring‑injured player, is advancing in his own rehab and could soon be assigned to a minor‑league assignment. Both players were acquired by Chicago in the offseason, with Murakami signing a two‑year, $34 million contract in December.
