White vinegar and lemon peel mixtures for limescale removal

White vinegar and lemon peels can be used to create a homemade cleaning solution to tackle mineral deposits and limescale. By soaking lemon peels in white vinegar for two to three weeks and then diluting the mixture with equal parts water, a citrus-scented spray can be produced for surfaces like glass shower doors.

However, the acidity of vinegar requires caution. While acetic acid is effective at dissolving calcium and magnesium buildup, it can damage certain materials. Users are advised to check manufacturer instructions before application, as the acid may dull or stain decorative finishes, stone surfaces, and protective coatings. For chrome taps, some brands suggest a fifty-fifty water and vinegar solution followed by thorough rinsing, while others strictly advise against using any acidic descalers.
