Kettle descaling: effective natural methods for limescale removal

Limescale buildup in kettles, caused by calcium and magnesium in hard water, can lead to slower heating times and mineral deposits in beverages. Various natural methods are recommended to address this issue.

One effective method involves using citric acid. To apply this, fill the kettle one-quarter full with water, add approximately half a packet of citric acid, and bring the mixture to a boil. After boiling, allow the solution to sit and cool completely to ensure all deposits are dissolved without leaving residue.

Alternatively, white vinegar serves as a common household solution. Because it contains acetic acid, it reacts with calcium carbonate to break down mineral deposits. For standard cleaning, a mixture of two-thirds water and one-third white vinegar can be left to sit for at least one hour. For more robust kettles, a 50/50 water-vinegar ratio can be boiled to accelerate the process.
