Whitehaven Coal reports record 40 million tonne production

Whitehaven Coal reported an underlying net profit after tax of $227 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. Despite a seven per cent drop in revenue to $5.4 billion due to cyclical price weakness, the company achieved record managed run-of-mine production of 40.3 million tonnes.

Production was split nearly evenly between New South Wales (20.2Mt) and Queensland (20.1Mt). Managed coal sales rose eight per cent to 32.7Mt, with an average coal price of $202 per tonne. The sales mix consisted of 57 per cent metallurgical coal and 43 per cent thermal coal.

CEO and Managing Director Paul Flynn attributed the results to a focus on productivity, cost discipline, and margin optimisation. The company also reported improved safety performance, with the total recordable injury frequency rate falling to 3.3. Whitehaven plans to return up to $159 million to shareholders through dividends and a share buy-back program.
