WHO Africa launches digital health campaign initiative

The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa has launched the DIGIT Health Campaign Data Digitization Project. This regional initiative aims to modernize the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of public health campaigns across the continent.

The DIGIT platform is designed as an open, modular, and interoperable digital infrastructure. It provides countries with a unified interface to manage vaccination campaigns, reducing dependence on fragmented tools. The first phase includes seven pilot countries to establish a foundation for regional scale-up.

Led by the WHO African Region’s Polio Eradication Programme and the Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Control Cluster, the three-year project is a collaboration with the eGov Foundation and supported by the Gates Foundation. The initiative focuses on country ownership and data sovereignty to strengthen health systems and support Universal Health Coverage.

Separately, the Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC 2027) is scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from February 28 to March 3, 2027. Convened by Amref Health Africa, Africa CDC, WHO AFRO, and the Rwandan Ministry of Health, the conference will address health financing, climate change pressures, and the integration of new technologies like artificial intelligence to build resilient health systems.
