WHO declares end of hantavirus outbreak on cruise ship MV Hondius

The Director‑General of the World Health Organization announced on 2 July that the hantavirus outbreak aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius has been contained and is now considered closed. The final case involved the last individual who had contact with an exposed passenger, ending the chain of transmission on the vessel.

The announcement follows international monitoring of the incident, which raised concerns due to the potential for rapid spread of the virus in confined ship environments.
