WHO Europe launches mental‑health awareness event for children in Athens

The WHO Regional Office for Europe is hosting the "Growing Healthier Together" event on 6 June 2026 at Kifisia Park in Athens. The gathering is organized in partnership with the Municipality of Kifisia and the Greek Ministry of Health and is open to the public with free admission.

The programme aims to raise awareness of mental‑health issues affecting children and adolescents, noting that mental‑disorders in those under 19 have risen by roughly one‑third over the past 15 years and that suicide remains the leading cause of death for ages 15‑29. It also highlights that one in ten teens reports bullying and one in four girls aged 15‑19 experiences mental‑health problems.

About 30 agencies—including government bodies, health‑care professionals, civil‑society organisations and educational services—will present information booths, interactive activities for families and opportunities to speak with mental‑health professionals. The event supports the EU Second Programme of Work 2026‑2030, which prioritises improving primary‑care mental‑health services.
