WHO guidelines address rising inactivity in children
Medical experts and health organizations are highlighting a concerning trend of decreasing physical activity among children and adolescents. Data indicates that four out of five young people are insufficiently active, contributing to rising rates of obesity.
Dr. med. Friederike Wippermann, a specialist in pediatric and adolescent medicine, notes that factors such as increased media consumption, reduced daily activity, and the lasting effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have negatively impacted movement patterns.
To combat these risks, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that children engage in at least one hour of moderate to intense physical activity every day, specifically excluding routine daily tasks to ensure sufficient physical exertion.
