WHO says global hantavirus outbreak near its end

World Health Organization Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that the hantavirus outbreak remains stable and is close to ending. The total number of confirmed cases stays at 13, including three deaths.

All contacts from the initial two cases identified in South Africa have completed monitoring with no additional infections reported. Quarantine and follow‑up procedures for contacts in Spain and the Netherlands have also been concluded, though as of 25 June thirty contacts worldwide remain under observation. The WHO thanked the participating nations for their cooperation.

No new hantavirus cases have been reported since these measures were implemented, and the organization considers the outbreak effectively under control.
