WHO strengthens health partnerships and outbreak response in Africa

The World Health Organization (WHO) is engaging in various health initiatives across Africa. In Cameroon, WHO Representative Dr. Magaran Monzon Bagayoko met with Osian Jones, the Global Fund Portfolio Manager for Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, to strengthen collaboration in combating HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria. The discussions focused on the implementation of current grants and preparations for future funding, with the WHO advocating for increased support for health system strengthening.

In Ghana, WHO experts provided technical assistance to the Ministry of Health to manage a cholera outbreak. The technical team conducted risk assessments, evaluated containment measures, and advised on the potential use of mass cholera vaccinations. The experts emphasized that addressing the epidemic requires a multi-sectoral approach involving water resources, housing, and environmental health, rather than relying solely on medical interventions like antibiotics and rehydration.
