Whole Foods recalls Cabricharme cheese over undeclared egg allergen

Whole Foods Market is recalling two varieties of Cabricharme cheese due to an undeclared egg allergen. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that the products contain egg lysozyme, a protein found in egg whites, which is not listed on the packaging.

The recall affects products sold at 18 Whole Foods locations across seven states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. The specific items include:

• Fromagerie Coop de Mean Cabricharme Raw Milk—Aged 60 days (PLU 57953), sold in California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. • Belgian Cabricharme (PLU 54670), sold in California and Arizona.

The recall applies to all products with best-by dates through October 7, 2026. While no illnesses have been reported, the FDA warns that individuals with egg allergies or severe sensitivities could experience serious or potentially fatal reactions.

Customers are advised to destroy the recalled cheese. Those with a valid receipt can receive a full refund at the place of purchase.
