Whole Foods recalls guacamole at highest FDA risk level

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has upgraded a voluntary recall of Whole Foods Market guacamole and salsa products to Class I, its highest risk level. This classification indicates a ‘reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to’ the products ‘will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.’

The recall involves various guacamole dips—including mild, spicy, pomegranate, and roasted corn varieties—as well as pico de gallo and certain salsas. The contamination is linked to jalapeño peppers supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors, a company based in Sinaloa, Mexico.

Affected products were distributed across several U.S. states, including Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin. The items in question have best-before or best-by dates ranging from August 7, 2026, to August 16, 2026.
