Wholesale and retail markets show mixed stability in Morocco and France
Wholesale and retail sectors in Morocco and France are experiencing varying degrees of market tension and stability during the second quarter of 2026.
In Morocco, a survey by the Haut-commissariat au plan (HCP) indicates that the wholesale market has seen little dynamic growth. While 21% of wholesalers reported increased sales, 60% reported stability, and 19% saw a decline. Price adjustments were noted, with 33% of professionals increasing rates, though 58% maintained current prices. Stock levels remain stable, with 87% of companies reporting normal inventory, suggesting that price changes are not driven by general shortages.
In France, the retail sector faces declining physical store traffic and sales. According to the RETIF Retail Barometer 2026, specialized retail sales fell by 2.8% year-on-year, and foot traffic dropped by 3% in June. City center and street-side shops were hit hardest by declining attendance. However, professional confidence indicators have risen above their long-term average, suggesting a potential normalization by the end of the year despite low consumer confidence and cautious household spending.
