Whoosh high-speed rail remains operational amid volcanic ash

PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) has confirmed that Whoosh high-speed rail operations on the Jakarta-Bandung corridor remain safe and normal despite volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.

KCIC is implementing multi-layered monitoring involving operations, safety, and infrastructure units. This includes running confirmation trains before passenger services begin and utilizing the Operation Control Center (OCC) to monitor critical components such as the Overhead Catenary System (OCS), power supply, rails, signaling, and switches.

The system is designed to automatically reduce train speeds if abnormal conditions are detected. To maintain visibility, trains are equipped with wipers and water sprays to clear ash from windshields. Currently, engineers report that visibility along the 142.3-kilometer route remains within normal limits.
