Whspr launches specialized 4 kW heat pump for terraced houses

Dutch startup Whspr has launched a 4 kW monobloc hybrid heat pump specifically designed for terraced houses. The unit utilizes the natural refrigerant R290 (propane) and is engineered to address common challenges in space-constrained residential settings, such as limited electrical capacity and noise restrictions.

A key feature of the device is its ability to operate on a standard 230 V electrical supply, requiring only 1700 W at peak power. This allows for installation via a standard grounded socket without complex electrical work or specialized STEK certification. The manufacturer noted that the 4 kW capacity is intended to cover 75–80% of heating needs for most homes, providing a more efficient and cost-effective alternative to larger, more expensive units.

The unit is designed for ease of installation, with the company stating that technicians can complete the setup in a single day by connecting it to existing hydronic heating systems using two T-junctions. Its low sound power level of 50.8 dB(A) allows it to be placed close to property boundaries without significant noise disturbance.
