Wi-Fi 7 standard introduces high-speed IEEE 802.11be connectivity
The Wi-Fi 7 standard, technically known as IEEE 802.11be, represents a significant evolution in wireless connectivity, aiming to reduce reliance on Ethernet cables for high-demand tasks. Officially introduced at CES in Las Vegas, the technology focuses on Extremely High Throughput (EHT) to facilitate seamless 8K streaming and metaverse applications.
Key technical advancements include Multi-Link Operation (MLO), which allows the simultaneous use of multiple frequency bands to reduce latency, and the expansion of bandwidth up to 320 MHz. Additionally, the implementation of 4096-QAM modulation optimizes data loading. The standard supports theoretical speeds of up to 46 Gbps, significantly multiplying the performance seen in Wi-Fi 6.
To achieve these speeds, Wi-Fi 7 utilizes the 6 GHz band to avoid congestion found in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. The technology has received backing from major industry players including MediaTek, Amazon, and TP-Link.
