Wi-Fi performance can be hindered by improper router and adapter placement
Improper placement and management of Wi-Fi routers and their power adapters can significantly degrade internet speeds and connection stability. Common mistakes include placing routers on the floor, in enclosed spaces like TV cabinets, or behind large metal objects, all of which obstruct signal propagation and hinder heat dissipation.
Additionally, placing the power adapter directly behind the router can cause issues through electromagnetic interference and heat buildup. The electromagnetic field generated by the adapter can interfere with Wi-Fi signals and Ethernet data transmission, while the heat produced during power conversion can lead to thermal throttling, causing the router to slow down or disconnect. To optimize performance, experts recommend placing routers in central, elevated, and open locations, while keeping power adapters separated from the device.
