Wicker film premieres at BFI London Film Festival
The film ‘Wicker’, based on Ursula Wills-Jones’ short story ‘The Wicker Husband’, has premiered at the BFI London Film Festival. The romantic fantasy comedy follows a fisherwoman, played by Olivia Colman, who lives as an outcast in a medieval seaside village.
To escape social ridicule and the pressures of local marriage traditions, the fisherwoman commissions a local basket weaver, played by Peter Dinklage, to craft her a husband. The resulting ‘Wicker Husband’, portrayed by Alexander Skarsgård, creates chaos within the village. The film explores themes of jealousy, gender roles, and societal expectations as both men and women react to the unconventional partnership.
Critics have noted the film’s blend of raunchy humor and heartfelt storytelling, highlighting the strong performances of the cast and the magical production design.
